Winterville Machine Works, a Pitt County manufacturer with nearly 70 years of history in the community, is continuing its growth in Winterville with new investment, facility renovations, and the creation of nine jobs.
Pitt County was awarded a $100,000 grant through the North Carolina Building Reuse Program’s Existing Business Building category to support renovations to a 57,038-square-foot building occupied by Winterville Machine Works. The project is expected to create nine new jobs and includes a $474,640 investment by the company.
“This grant strengthens Winterville Machine Works’ ability to invest in our people and our plant, and we’re grateful to the state and local partners who helped make this possible,” said Greig Lane, President, Winterville Machine Works. “By supporting the renovation of our facility, the state is helping us create good manufacturing jobs and continue contributing to the economic vitality of Pitt County and Eastern North Carolina.”
Winterville Machine Works provides engineering, precision machining, welding, fabrication, and other advanced manufacturing services. Its customers span industries including marine, transportation, mining, power generation, oil and gas, and other sectors. The company’s overall Winterville operation includes seven buildings totaling more than 80,000 square feet, as well as more than 80 pieces of precision machining and quality assurance equipment.
“The Winterville Machine Works expansion project will position the company for additional growth in Pitt County and strengthen their leadership position in their industry,” said Kelly Andrews, Pitt County Economic Development Director. “We look forward to continuing to support them and we are proud that they chose to expand at home.”
The North Carolina Building Reuse Program, administered through the N.C. Department of Commerce’s Rural Economic Development Division, provides grants to local governments to support projects that lead to new job creation. Eligible projects include the renovation of vacant buildings, renovations or expansions of buildings occupied by existing North Carolina businesses, and certain rural health care facilities.

The project was managed by the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC) with Pitt County Economic Development providing grant management and existing industry support throughout the project. The Pitt County Board of Commissioners approved support, including a 5% grant match, on Monday, August 3, 2026.

The grant for Winterville Machine Works was approved by the North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority as one of 10 Building Reuse Program grants announced statewide in August.
